Money matters

Competitive pay rates by assignment

At Medical Express we value your professionalism and vital contributions to the healthcare industry. That's why we pay you the highest rates possible. Compensation varies by assignment, location and specialty, with base pay rates of up to $40 per hour for a RN. Many of our traveling nurse assignments offer shift differentials for evening and night shifts, offering increased pay rates for each hour worked. Unlike some other companies, the pay rates we quote are for regular pay, and most RNs earn more due to shift differentials, overtime and other bonuses. Ask your recruiter for details.

Generous Completion Bonuses

Many of our hospital clients also offer lucrative completion bonuses, which can range from $500 to $6,000 for a 13-week assignment. Ask your recruiter for further details.

Referral bonuses

Spread the word about Medical Express to your friends and colleagues and earn extra cash in the process! Once your friend completes a 13-week assignment, we'll mail you a check for $500. For a limited time, refer a friend who's an ER nurse to Medical Express and earn a double cash bonus of $1,000. See our Refer-a-Friend page for details.

401(k) retirement plan

Our 401(k) plan enables you to save towards your retirement with tax-free dollars. Highlights of the plan include:

• Immediate enrollment—no waiting period;
• Fifteen diverse stock, bond and money market funds to choose from;
• The option to contribute up to 50 percent of your salary or $14,000 annually ($18,000 if you’re 50 or older);
• A generous matching contribution. Following 1,000 hours of continuous employment, Medical Express will match 50 cents for each dollar you defer, up to 6 percent of your salary.

Whether you drive, fly or take a train to and from your assignment, Medical Express will pay you a generous travel reimbursement. Best of all, it’s tax-free.

Medical insurance

Our new health insurance benefits give each traveling nurse the choice of two plans; one with coverage starting from the first day of your assignment. Our group medical insurance plans minimize out-of-pocket expenses and meet a wide range of healthcare needs.

Dental insurance

We offer two dental insurance plans, including day-one coverage. By offering two dental plans, we give you the option to choose the plan that best suits your needs.

Discount vision program

To help you and your family save on eye exams, prescription lenses, frames, contact lenses and other eye care products, Medical Express offers a vision eye care benefit at no cost to you, through our partnership with VSP, a national discount vision provider. Access to VSP is contingent upon your medical/dental enrollment.

Free basic life insurance

Medical Express travelers receive $10,000 of life and $10,000 of accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage at no cost.

Professional Liability Insurance

Our excellent, comprehensive professional liability insurance―available to all our healthcare professionals, completely free of charge―provides you with coverage from the first day on assignment.

"My Care" Wellness Program

Feel better and live longer with the Medical Express interactive health and wellness program. The "My Care" program offered through Great West Insurance company offers features such as:

Premium housing

When you become a traveling nurse with Medical Express, you will be provided with free, private, quality housing conveniently located near your assignment facility. By working exclusively with the country's largest and most reputable property management companies, we can confidently assure our travelers that wherever their assignments take them, their accommodations will be safe and secure, clean, well-appointed and equipped with furniture, modern amenities and utilities. Tuition discount program
